The term “Shared Cinematic Universe” has never been so popular (let alone exist) so much in cinema like now. Marvel Studios started there shared superhero cinematic universe in 2008 with Iron Man and has had great success with it. So much so that it has set other studios in a scrabble to start there properties in there own shared cinematic universe. One studio in particular is Universal and there “Classic Monsters”. These monsters include, The Wolfman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, The Mummy, The Phantom of the Opera, The Invisible Man, Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein. The studio has been in talks for some time now to gear up this universe and get it in motion with Alex Kirksman and Chris Morgan overseeing the project. Up until now not much has been said about the project other then a release date for there first film “The Mummy” set to hit theaters in March 24, 2017. Now we hear the rumor that actress Angelina Jolie is being eyed for, The Bride of Frankenstein! Although just a rumor at the moment, this seems to carry some weight behind it since Universal has backed Jolie’s last two films Unbroken (2014) and By the Sea (2015), which seems to show they have a good working relationship. Call me crazy, but I think Angelina Jolie would simply kill it as the Bride of Frankenstein! Also reported recently is that actor Tom Cruise has, or is in negotiations, to sign on for The Mummy! This one I did not see coming but I welcome it with open arms! With star power like Jolie and Cruise you cant go wrong, and shows that universal is not messing around with its monster properties. Properties that started back in the Golden age of Hollywood, these monsters are beloved by many. So its no surprise that Universal will go to no lengths to get this right. With this latest news it would seem there heading in the right direction. Just imagine a universe that will mix these monsters together, culminating into a mash-up avengers style movie of epic proportions! So are you excited to see this universe come together after each character gets there solo film? And what do you think of the latest news with Jolie and Cruise? I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions. As for me, I’m already dancing the “Monster-Mash”!
