Creed, the 7th film in a franchise that started back in 1976 with its first installment, Rocky. Different from the rest of the franchise this film can stand alone as its own movie. Thankfully it has many references that connect it to the other films other then its two main characters Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan). This recent installment brought back the Rocky franchise to its roots, its boxing roots! Yes, this is a sports drama with a great boxing feel to it that really make it a joy for boxing fans. A fresh take on the Rocky series as they “dig up” an old character from the Rocky mythos (sort of), as Adonis Johnson is the son of Apollo Creed. Michael B. Jordan did an excellent job portraying the son of late Apollo Creed! Not to mention Stallone putting in his own emotional driven performance, his best of the series yet! Some story elements could have been edited down to make the boxing side of this drama a bit more stronger, as the boxing fights were few but great! With one fight in particular being filmed in a single Steadicam shot! This has been the best Rocky Balboa movie since Rocky 4 in my opinion. With some unnecessary story elements being my only complaint, this movie is a high 8! Totally worth watching, especially if you’ve been a fan of this franchise!
