Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) is a fantastic movie of epic proportions! Assembling the entire main cast of Star Trek (2009) with Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Karl Urban (Bones), Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov), the crew is back!. With the main core of the Star Fleet Enterprise intact, Director J.J. Abrams brings back one of the most dangerous villains this Star Trek franchise has ever seen, Khan! Khan, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, portrayed one of the best villains since Sir Anthony Hopkins played Hannibal Lector. Khan was very intelligent making him a calculating killer yet he showed strong emotions as it almost justifies his actions. One scene in particular that shows an intense “Mexican standoff” between the USS Enterprise and the USS Vengeance as Spock and Khan have a battle of wits! Forget who has the best “poker face”, this was a battle between two very intelligent beings of above normal intellect. Spock even performed the famous Volcan “Nerve Pinch” on Khan which didn’t render him unconscious as it does every one else, but it did hurt him to some extent. All these extremely intense scenes were complimented by some of the best special effects in the business! When you cant tell what’s CGI and what’s practical effects, you know your watching something special. Beautiful widescreen shots, wonderful space visuals and the Red Planet with its bright colors in the opening scene were just gorgeous! This Sci-Fi action adventure had it all. A must see film for anyone who loves a fun movie with good humor and equally intense moments. For all the hard core Trekkie fans who had a problem with this installment, get over it, cause its time to embrace change. With that being said, “Live Long and Prosper”…
